Corsica, wild, craggy, smack in the middle of the Mediterranean. Seesawing between its Italian and French identities before becoming French in 1769. Imagine, had Napoleon, the little Corsican who rose to rule over Europe been born just three months earlier, he would have been Italian!
The island offers two distinct Corsicas. There is Upper Corsica with Bastia as its main city, and Southern Corsica with Ajaccio as its regional capital.
The people on each side sneer at the other side, together they sneer at mainland France and the French from mainland France... come in droves for vacations in idyllic Corsican resorts.
The food, don’t forget the food! Goat cheese of a variety you wouldn’t believe, olive oil, green and yellow and all shades in between depending on where and when the olives were harvested and pressed, incredible charcuterie, and fish of course-
THIS IS AN ISLAND!
